Position Summary

The Staff Digital Engineer is responsible for product architecture and detailed design. This person will design and develop custom high-speed data acquisition and digital signal-processing cards for precision tracking radars and radar cross section (RCS) measurement systems. The Staff Digital Engineer will develop firmware for STAR Dynamics’ next generation instrumentation radars and RF synthesizer platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Researches requirements and designs product architecture and shares overall product responsibility.
  2. Designs and develops digital subsystems.
  3. Implements and tests digital subsystems and signal-processing firmware.
  4. Develops robust and complex firmware solutions on a variety of state-of-the-art platforms.
  5. Provides technical guidance and training to engineering staff.
  6. Actively participates in development of best engineering practices.
  7. Other duties as required.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent (Master’s preferred) .


  • Xilinx UltraScale+ RFSoC development experience .
  • Experience with JESD204B communication protocol.
  • Minimum 10 years professional experience.
  • Minimum 7 years complex multi-layer digital board design.
  • Minimum 7 years FPGA development.
  • Minimum 1 years in behavioral VHDL.
  • Logic simulation experience (e.g. Aldec, Modelsim, etc.).
  • Excellent hardware/software troubleshooting experience and solid analog/RF foundation.

Physical Ability

  • Must be physically agile and able to support hands-on work with large indoor and outdoor radar systems.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and mount electronics equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. into chassis or structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High-speed communications protocol (SFPDP, Ethernet, etc.) experience.
  • Altera FPGA development experience.
  • Expertise with MATLAB simulation (filter design, FFT, etc.).
  • Radar imaging and/or tracking experience (SAR, ISAR), RF, electromagnetic theory.
